ABC News says 53% of Americans support same-sex marriage while a Fox News poll says only 37% believe gender-segregated couples should be allowed to marry. This is a 16% difference which is surely statistically significant.
Fox News:
Considering the fact that 32 states have voted for pro-gender marriage, President Obama might want to reconsider his war against Fox News.
Overall, 53 percent of Americans say gay marriage should be legal, steady the past year but up from 36 percent in just 2006.
Fox News:
According to a Fox News poll released Wednesday, 37 percent of voters believe gays and lesbians should be allowed to get married legally.
Do you believe Fox or ABC regarding pro-gender marriage versus anti-gender marriage?
Considering the fact that 32 states have voted for pro-gender marriage, President Obama might want to reconsider his war against Fox News.
Fox's interpretation of its own poll is misleading or distorted. They asked if people think 1) gay marriage should be legal, 2) civil unions should be legal, or 3) no legal recognition for gay couples. It split roughly 1/3 each. Fox wrongly interpreted this result as anyone who didn't select choice 1 as being "opposed" to gay marriage. Here's why that's false.
ReplyDeleteIf I asked you to pick an ice cream flavor you wanted to eat, and you could only pick one, and the choices were 1) Vanilla, 2) chocolate, or 3) strawberry, and the results split 1/3 each, does that mean 66% DISLIKE vanilla? Obviously, no, it doesn't. I may have picked chocolate as my favorite, or preference, but when offered vanilla I would eat that too and like it.
The public's changing opinion in favor of same-sex recognition is well documented over the last decade. The president's "new" position is a reflection and acknowledgement of that change.
